Completing out Task Boxes
In the month of December, we were finally able to complete all of our task boxes. Then we started to create sensory boxes for the kids to use. We got Kinetic Sand, rice, and beans and provided things like molds, scoops, dinosaurs, and cars for the kids to play with. The feedback from the sensory boxes was great and the kids really love them. Now that we are finished with Mrs. Thomas' classroom we plan to reach out to other resource teachers and possible the Occupational Therapist at SCE. We had a lot of success with what we have already completed and other teacher seem interested in our project.
Giving Trees and Helping a Family in Need
As a class we also completed two projects. We started out with the Giving Trees. For this project my groups job was to cut out and put together the ornaments for the tree. Other groups were tasked with things like making the Amazon wishlist and keeping track of the items donated. Our goal was to collect as many donated items as we could for the Hope House. This was a very successful project in which the whole school was able to get involved.
The second class project we did was raising money and shopping for a family in need. Our class adopted a family consisting of a single father and his 6-year-old daughter. The dad suffered from an injury resulting in him losing his job. As a class we were able to raise $1,200 for this family. We then went to a variety of stores to get gift cards and ended our trip at Walmart. At Walmart we shopped for the dad and his girl getting them clothing, toys, and other necessities or wants. My group and I even made her a cute little stocking full of things a little girl would love. I know we will make their holiday season so much brighter and Im so happy I got to be a part of such a great project.

Working Through October
Throughout October we continued working on Task Boxes and started making math task boxes! We have 3 levels of math task boxes with each level having 16 activities ranging from adding to telling time. Our process included printing out all of the task cards and cutting them out. Then we laminated the cards to cut them out individually. After that we put velcro on the cards that required it and but them into a labeled box. We also made a few trips to Hobby Lobby for supplies. We plan on starting some sensory boxes soon!

Working Through September
Throughout the month of September we began working on creating our task boxes. Every long work day we went to Sugar Creek to work on task boxes. We first printed out templates from teacherspayteachers.com then cut them out. Then the next week we laminated the cards with Mrs. Thomas's laminator and laminator paper we bought off amazon and cut them out to fit into the boxes we bought. And with our work time we were able to complete a whole set of language are task cards that included topics such as author's purpose, grammar, nouns, vowels, and more. We plan of doing a math set next!

What Are Task Boxes?
A task box is an alternative way to learn in a classroom that is more hands-on than using a pencil and paper. Teachers in resource classrooms can never have enough resources, and the schools we are focusing on, have a lot of students who are struggling and falling behind in their learning. These boxes include tasks like matching, spelling, math, sorting, reading, and more. They will help kids work on other motor skills, critical thinking, and engaging in their learning.

Why Did We Choose This Project?
After pulling inspiration from previous projects and looking at what I am passionate about, I landed on something that would help out kids. I work in a daycare and have done a lot of volunteer work involving kids with my project partners Maggie Murphy and Sydney Miller. We all love working with kids and doing what we can to help them be successful!
